Virginia L. Stanton

Virginia “Gini” Stanton, 89, of Massillon, Ohio passed peacefully into the arms of her savior on July 14th, 2025. Gini was born October 20th, 1935 in Massillon, Ohio, the beloved daughter of Harold and Francis (Clark) Hamel.

Gini lived her entire life in Massillon where she attended St Mary’s Catholic grade school and graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1953. She worked at Massillon High School in the bookkeeping department and ticket office. Gini sold tickets to the high school home football games. Gini loved football and she loved her Tigers, she watched every game. Gini had special connections with the kids at the high school and was dearly loved by many of them. Gini also loved to play cards and was part of a card club that consisted of her and her life long friends from high school.

Gini is survived by her children Laurie Stanton, James Stanton, Patrick (Christine Weaver) Stanton and Amy Portello. She is also survived by her brother, John “Jack” Hamel. Her grandchildren, Alex (Annie) Belty, Mark Belty, Ashely (Josh) Mootz, Paige Townes, Justin Portello, Drew (Camie) Stanton, Seth (Kalei) Stanton, Nash Stanton and Hailey Stanton many great grandchildren, an aunt, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Gini was proceeded in death by her parents Harold and Francis Hamel and beloved Uncle Jack “Clarkie” Clark.

A memorial Service will be held Saturday, August 9th, family to receive friends at 12:00 P.M with service to begin at 1 P.M. Paquelet Funeral Home, 1100 Wales Road NE, Massillon, Ohio, 44646 with a luncheon to follow. A private family internment will be held at St Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please make donations to The Chapel Hill Community, 12200 Strausser St NW, Alliance, Ohio, 44601, second floor, in honor of Virginia Stanton.
