Virginia L. Stanton

Virginia “Gini” Stanton, 89, of Massillon, Ohio, passed peacefully into the arms of her Savior on July 14, 2025. Gini was born on October 20, 1935, in Massillon, Ohio, the beloved daughter of Harold and Frances (Clark) Hamel.

Gini lived her entire life in Massillon, where she attended St. Mary’s Catholic Grade School and graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1953. She worked at Massillon High School in the bookkeeping department and ticket office, where she sold tickets to the home football games.

Gini loved football—and she loved her Tigers. She watched every game. She had special connections with the students at the high school and was dearly loved by many of them. Gini also enjoyed playing cards and was a devoted member of a card club made up of her lifelong friends from high school.

Gini is survived by her children: Laurie Belty, James Stanton, Patrick (Christine Weaver) Stanton, and Amy Portello; her brother, John “Jack” Hamel; and her grandchildren: Alex (Anne) Belty, Mark Belty, Ashley (Josh) Mootz, Paige Townes, Justin Portello, Drew (Cammie) Stanton, Seth (Kalei) Stanton, Nash Stanton, and Hailey Stanton. She is also survived by many great-grandchildren, her aunt, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Frances Hamel, and her beloved uncle, Jack “Clarkie” Clark.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 9, at Paquelet Funeral Home, 1100 Wales Road NE, Massillon, Ohio, 44646. The family will receive friends at 12:00 p.m., with the service to begin at 1:00 p.m. A luncheon will follow. A private family interment will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery.
