Thomas K. 'Pokey' Converse

Thomas K. ‘Pokey' Converse age 71 of Massillon passed away Friday at Aultman Hospital after a short illness. His strong faith carried him to a peaceful and graceful death. Tom was born June 28, 1933 in Massillon to the late Paul & Teresa (McGinnis) Converse. He was a 1952 graduate of Central Catholic High School, attended Kent State University and served in the US Army in Korea. He was the owner-operator of Pokey's Pub on Amherst Rd. for many years. In 1995 he retired as manager of the L & K Motel in Wooster. Pokey will be remembered as an avid fan of Tiger & Buckeye Sports, past president of the Tiger Booster Club and member of the Sideliners. In 1993 he married Virginia, the love of his life; sharing eight years together until her death in December 2001. In addition a half sister Elvira Bendit preceded him in death. He is survived by: Sister Nancy & Dr. George Duncan of Canton Brother Paul & June Converse of Tuscon, AZ 10 nieces & nephews and many great nieces & nephews
