Listen to Obituary

Thomas (Tommy) Bruce Ferris, age 79, Canton Ohio, passed away unexpectedly on June 6 2026 at 9:12 pm at Mercy Medical Center. Thomas was born on January 16th, 1947 in Timken Mercy Hospital.

He attended Timken High School from where he left to join the armed forces. He had a successful career in the United States Army from 1965-1967 in which he was stationed in Gelnhausen, West Germany during his service. He was honorably discharged at the rank of PFC E3. After serving his country valiantly overseas, he parted ways to become a journeyman butcher at Giant Eagle where he worked for 40 years and retired. In 1974, he married Joyce Diane Monte, they shared 42 years of marriage and love.

Thomas will be remembered for his ornery, quick witted nature, in which he made everyone around him laugh, feel loved and heard. He was very compassionate and supportive of his family. He felt very strongly about his Ohio sports teams and was dedicated until the end. He was the epitome of a "Die hard fan". As strongly as he felt about his sports teams, he felt just as strongly about serving his country. His loyalty through sports teams and country was also parallel to his dedication as a proud Honor Guard member as a continued service of his country and community.

He was survived by his children, Kari Grohl, Angela Ferris (Bruce), his grandchildren , Alexander (Samantha) Ferris , Blake Ferris, Alexis (Mckenzie) Atkins, Andrea (Gaige) Atkins, and great great grandchild Lae'Ana Divine. He was proceeded in death by his mother Betty Ferris, his father Floyd Ferris, his wife Joyce Monte Ferris and his daughter Kimberly Jean Daniels. He served proudly with Chip Stark, John Campbell, Bob Wyckoff, Jerry Yocum, Barrett Scott, and Bob Findley in the Honor Guard.

He will always be remembered in his jovial, kindhearted nature and spirit. He will always remain in our hearts and memories.
