Shirley A. Gauze

Shirley A. Gauze, age 90, of Jackson Township, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2025. She was born on September 8, 1935, in Canton, Ohio, to the late Harold and Margaret Uhl.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Robert E. Uhl; her husband, Jimmie B. Gauze; and her son, Thomas T. Gauze.

She is survived by her son, Timothy T. Gauze; grandchildren, Jacob A. Gauze (Amanda), Hope Gauze Schnabel (Jarrod) of Massillon, and Kayla N. Davidson (De'Vonte) of Columbus; as well as four great-grandchildren.

Shirley was a 1953 graduate of Canton South High School and a 1957 graduate of the Aultman School of Nursing. She devoted her career to the service of others, working for over 30 years as a nurse—including 20 years in intensive care, 10 years in surgical nursing, and additional service in nursing homes on a part-time basis. Beyond her professional contributions, she provided personal care and comfort to numerous friends and family members during times of illness.

A woman of strong faith, Shirley was a devoted member of Amherst Community Church, where she served faithfully on the hospitality committee. Her deep love for her Lord and Savior, as well as her commitment to her church community, were central to her life.

A private viewing for the family will be held at Paquelet Funeral Home, followed by a graveside service at Sunset Hills Memory Gardens for family and close friends. Reverend Cal Hamblin of Amherst Community Church will officiate the service.
