Sandra Kay Diss, age 82, of Massillon, passed away peacefully on May 23, 2025. She was born April 28th, 1943, in Canton Ohio, daughter of the late Oliver Wendell and Ruth Ellen (Austin) Kohl.
Sandra loved cheerleading and was a cheerleader at Perry high School where she graduated in 1961. She married her soulmate Freddie on November 5, 1961. She went on to become a beautician and served at Avenue Beauty Salon with her mom for approximately 10 years. She also worked several years at the Silver Llama clothing store in Belden Village.
She enjoyed playing tennis and golf, and she enjoyed traveling the world with her husband, along with many friends in their retirement years. She and Freddie were avid wine enthusiasts, and enjoyed making their own wine together, which they also enjoyed sharing with everyone. One of their specialties was a Green Apple Riesling and everyone who tried it, enjoyed it tremendously.
Sandy and Freddie had one child, Jeffrey Brian, and daughter in law Michele Lynn, and was blessed with three granddaughters with whom she poured her soul into. Taking them to ballet lessons and shopping when they were little was one of her highlights. Celebrating the holidays for Sandy, was her chance to shine for the whole family. Every detail from the way she decorated her house, to the details of how she prepared the meals, to the way she made each and every Christmas present she wrapped, look like something out of a Martha Stewart magazine. Even using calligraphy on the name tags! She hosted many dozens of memorable cookouts and pool parties each summer with family and neighbors, and her annual seafood dinners that she made for her family were her favorite.
She was fortunate to be able to enjoy seven great grandchildren, and would never miss any of their birthdays. They always affectionately referred to her as, Monama. She dearly loved each and every one of them and she was always amazed at how big her family had grown so big from having just one child.
She belonged to the Canton Baptist Temple. She was proceeded in death by her parents, her two sisters Susan Downs (Kohl) and Shirley Carey (Kohl).
She is survived by her husband, Freddie, her son and daughter in law Jeffrey (Michele) Diss, her granddaughters Christina (Josh) Barrick, Diana (William) Weaver, Jessica (Jeremy) Darst, and seven great grandchildren, Hailey, Samantha, Audrie, Liam, Kinsley, Lucas, and Myles.
