Ruth Ann Turskey of Massillon passed away at Danbury Assisted Living surrounded by family at the age of 86 on Monday, November 6, 2023. She courageously battled multiple-myeloma for over 18 years. She was born on March 17, 1937 in North Lawrence, Ohio. Ruth lived her life serving others and taking care of her family.
Ruth married Veryl E. Turskey on Sept. 23, 1955, and they had three sons: Scott (Chris), Steve (Sue), and Shawn (Stacey). She had nine grandkids: Rachel (Ernie) Burbrink, Sara (Chris) Nycz, Daniel (Brianna) Turskey; Ashley (Ryan) Linsalata, Lindsay (Vinny) Latessa, Craig Turskey; Jacob (Kelly) Turskey, Samantha (Dan) Cooley, and Joshua Turskey; and twelve great-grandkids (Hadley, Luke & Isla Burbrink, Nolan & Gibson Nycz, Finnegan, Felix & Fennec Turskey, Amelia & Francesca Linsalata, Domenic & Gianna Latessa). She is survived by her sister Genevieve (Tom) Hamman, her brother David (Shiela) Laps, and her sister-in-law Karen (Myron) Croskey. She was preceded in death by her parents Frank & Beulah Laps, brothers, Frank (Hazel) Laps, Ralph (Peggy) Laps, Donald (Patty) Laps and Eugene (Margaret) Laps and sister, Eileen (Tom) Zeller.
To know Ruth was to love her. In high school, she was selected as the 1955 Miss Massillonion. She always had a knack for fashion and even sold “Queens-way to Fashion” clothing. Ruth’s outer beauty was merely a reflection of her inner beauty. She was passionate about God, family, friends, and loving others. Ruth was very involved in Grace United Church of Christ and would seek out opportunities to serve. She had a contagious positive spirit and everyone around her revered her as a sweetheart. She was full of energy, saw the best in people, and made everyone around her feel special and loved.
Ruth left behind a legacy of love and compassion that will forever be etched in the hearts of her friends and family.
On Saturday, Nov. 25, 2023, the family will receive friends starting at 11:00 am at Grace United Church of Christ in Massillon (933 Main Ave W, Massillon, OH 44647). At 2:00 pm they will have a Celebration of Life, followed by food and refreshments.
