With gratitude for a life well lived we announce the passing of Ronald Bernard Tynan Sr. on July 4th, 2025. Ron aspired to live the American Dream and accomplished just that. A true patriot and self-made man with a relentless work ethic he built a successful career, beautiful home and loving family. That's why it was endearing that the last day of his 85 years with us came on the most American day of all, Independence Day. Ron passed comfortably at home in Massillon, Ohio surrounded by his loving family.
Born on April 3, 1940 Ron was the proud son of John Donovan Tynan and Marie Bertha Johnson. He was married for an incredible 61 years to his high school sweet heart, Carol Eileen Grosswiller. Together, they built a life filled with joy, laughter, and unwavering support for one another. As Carol would say, she was the sail, the kids the wind and Ron the rudder steering us along the way.
Ron was a graduate of Central Catholic High School and Malone College, where he earned his bachelor's degree in business and economics. He continued his education as a graduate of the National Graduate Trust School at Northwestern University. Ron’s career spanned over 45 years in the banking industry starting out as a bank parking lot attendant before securing a teller position and eventually retiring as Vice President & Sr. Trust Officer at First Merit Bank in Akron.
Proudly serving in the Army National Guard from 1963 to 1969, Ron embodied the American spirit. His commitment to his country and community was further evident in his extensive charitable work. He served as a trustee on various foundations throughout the Akron/Canton area, with a significant tenure as the Chairman of the Albert & Edith Flowers Charitable Foundation. He also held the position of emeritus board member of the Summit County Historical Society and was a long-time parishioner of St. Joan of Arc Church, along with being a former member of the Knights of Columbus.
Ron was a dedicated Massillon Tigers season ticket holder for 66 years, often seen cheering enthusiastically alongside his wife, a former Massillon Tigers Cheerleader and Miss Massillonian. As an avid car enthusiast Ron was always seen cruising in style and tinkering under the hood. However, his greatest passion was his family as a devoted father of four and grandpa/Pop Po/Pop Pop of 11 grandchildren. Whether it be planes, trains, cars or Winnebagos he enjoyed traveling extensively with his family including regular trips to his cherished perch in Myrtle Beach, SC.
Ron leaves behind his devoted wife, Carol, his four children, Douglas (Jackie), Julia (Gerald Leonard), David (Tracy), Ronald Jr. (Erin), and his adoring grandchildren Chase, Colin, Shane, Grace, Ryan, Lauren, Vivian, Ashley, Rory, Remy and Walter. His legacy of love, commitment, and community service will forever remain an inspiring example to all who knew him.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Ron's life on Saturday, July 12, 2025. Calling hours are from 9:00-10:30am at Paquelet Funeral Home (1100 Wales Rd. NE, Massillon, OH 44646) followed by funeral service at 11:00am at St. Joan of Arc Church (4940 Tuscarawas St. W, Canton, OH 44708). The family kindly requests any donations be made to the Massillon Boys & Girls Club (730 Duncan St. SW, Massillon, OH 44647) or Perry History Club (P.O. Box #80575, Canton, OH 44708), honoring Ron’s commitment to uplifting his community’s youth and honoring its history.
As we say goodbye to a remarkable man who contributed so greatly to the fabric of America, we take comfort in knowing that he is at peace, reunited with loved ones who have gone before him. Ron will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
