Roger Leo Koontz

Roger L. Koontz, 97, passed away on Saturday, July 25, 2026 in Canton, Ohio. He was born on December 23, 1928 in Greentown, Ohio. He was a graduate of Greentown High School, class of 1946. He married Marjorie A. Koontz on September 6, 1953 and had a wonderful 69 years together.

Roger worked over 20 years as a structural drafter for American Electric Power Co. in Canton, Ohio and retired in 1992. He had also worked at several other engineering and fabricating companies in Cleveland and Canton. Roger was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army and served in the Korean Conflict. Prior to that, he served as a Merchant Marine on ore ships on the Great Lakes. Roger was also an active 32nd Degree Mason and a proud member of the Scottish Rite.

Roger and Margie enjoyed camping and traveling across the country, and had visited all 48 contiguous states. In his later years, Roger enjoyed spending time with his neighbors at Canton Christian Home, participating in every activity that was offered.

Roger was preceded in death by his wife Margie and his granddaughter Grace. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law David and Julie Koontz, son Ken Koontz, and son and daughter-in-law Brad and Lori Koontz. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and a host of other family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Canton Christian Home Activities Fund in Roger's honor.

Visitation will be held at Paquelet Funeral Home on Friday, July 31, 2026 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM. Services will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2026 at 1:00 PM. Interment will follow at Sunset Hills Burial Park.
