Richard Allen Black, 76, of Perry Township, Ohio, peacefully passed away surrounded by his loving family on March 31, 2026. He was born on July 24, 1949, in the city of Canton, Ohio to the late Richard L. and Esther A. Black.
Richard was a graduate of Hoover High School. Following graduation, he was drafted into the 25th infantry division of the United States Army, where he was awarded a Bronze Star and the Army Commendation Medal for his meritorious service in the Vietnam War. In 1987, he married the love of his life, Jean. He then spent the next several years "mooning" all of her friends.
He spent his professional career working at Timken Steel, Perry Rubber, Smith & Nephew, Ansell Perry, eventually retiring from Walsh University. Richard enjoyed fishing, woodworking, little treats, "sup"ing random strangers, and sneaking the occasional cigarette, despite how many security cameras were installed around the house. Most recently, Richard enjoyed his new home overlooking the pond, watching for turkeys and enjoying his retirement.
In addition to his parents, Richard is preceded in death by his beloved dog, Otis.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Jean Black; sons, Richard G. (Ashley M.) Black, Zachary (Allison) Black, Travis (Stephanie) Black, and Austin Black; grandchildren, Zoe Black, Richard J. Black, Maisy Black, and Emerson Black; sister, Susan (Roy) Yoder; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, Friday, April 3, 2026 at Paquelet & Arnold-Lynch Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, April 4, 2026 at the funeral home, with burial and military honors to follow at Sunset Hills Memory Gardens.
