Phyllis Ann Flowers, a beloved figure in her community, passed away on January 22, 2026. Born on February 26, 1951, Phyllis was educated in the Massillon public school system, where she laid the foundation for a life dedicated to service and community involvement.
For 25 years, Phyllis demonstrated unwavering commitment and dedication at the World Kitchen Plant in Massillon, becoming a cherished presence among her colleagues. Her work ethic and passion for helping others were hallmarks of her character. Phyllis was deeply involved in her community and served on the Culinary Arts Committee for St. James AME Zion Church in Massillon, where she attended and worshipped regularly. Her contributions to the church reflected her desire to uplift those around her. Phyllis was a faithful and strong supporter of the church, always lending a hand wherever it was needed. She will be missed greatly.
Phyllis was known for her radiant spirit and her readiness to lend a helping hand. Her role as a Democratic Honorary Delegate in 2016 stands as one of her proudest accomplishments, showcasing her dedication to civic engagement and the betterment of her community. Throughout her life, she gave countless hours and donations to those in need, embodying the spirit of generosity. She received certificates of appreciation and acknowledgement from the National Museum of African American History and Culture, Father Flanagan's Boys' Home, and for her volunteer acts with Habitat for Humanity. Phyllis was also a member of People for the American Way, The American Civil Liberties Union, Obama's Honorary Kitchen Cabinet, and was an honorary delegate for the Democratic National Convention.
Phyllis leaves behind her loving daughter, Kimberly Flowers; half-daughter, Melinda (Anthony) Williams; sister-in-law, Ethel Young. She was a proud grandmother to Brittny Flowers-Wilson, DeMarquez D. Boles, Dana L. Flowers, Dometrious D. Boles, Daniel L. Flowers II, Jasmine F. Glenn, Jason F. Glenn II, Logon K. Bushe, and Zaire R. Hunley. Additionally, Phyllis is remembered by her twenty great-grandchildren and her special friend, Gary D. Flowers, of Massillon, Ohio .
She was preceded in death by her father, George Young; mother, Naomi Killins; son, Daniel Flowers; daughter, Tonita Flowers; and brothers George Young, Jerome Young, Keith (Gale) Young, Warren Killins, Tyrone Thornhill, Michael Young, and Gregory Young. Phyllis was also preceded in death by her sisters Angela Rogers, Jackie Young, and Linda Young.
Phyllis Ann Flowers will be remembered as a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend—a remarkable woman whose legacy of kindness, service, and love will continue to inspire all who knew her.
