Listen to Obituary

Mario Donald Fatigati, 69, of Canton, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly on June 13, 2026, following a courageous battle with kidney disease.

Born July 13, 1956, and raised in Massillon, Ohio, Mario lived a life defined by determination, reinvention, and devotion to family. A 1975 graduate of Central Catholic High School, he possessed an entrepreneurial spirit and a willingness to pursue new opportunities wherever life led him.

As a young man, Mario developed a passion for bodybuilding and Olympic-style weightlifting. Through discipline and perseverance, he achieved national recognition by earning fourth place in the prestigious Mr. Los Angeles competition during the mid-1980s. The work ethic that fueled that accomplishment would remain a defining characteristic throughout his life.

While living in California, Mario founded and operated a successful mobile pet grooming business in Santa Monica and later managed a popular camera and photography store in the San Fernando Valley. His love of aviation led him to become a helicopter pilot and certified flight instructor. He eventually established a helicopter flight school at Van Nuys Airport, where he trained aspiring pilots and became a respected member of the aviation community. During that same period, he expanded his entrepreneurial pursuits by opening a popular breakfast and lunch counter serving pilots and airport personnel.

Following the 1994 Northridge earthquake, which severely impacted his businesses, Mario chose to return to Ohio and begin yet another chapter of his life. Back home, he established a portrait and wedding photography studio and later managed a portrait studio at Belden Village Mall. Photography remained a lifelong passion, and in later years he became highly knowledgeable in vintage photographic and audio/video equipment, earning a reputation among collectors for his expertise in acquiring, restoring, and selling classic cameras and accessories.

Of all his accomplishments, Mario was proudest of being a father. His children, Nathan and Danielle, were the center of his world. He loved them deeply, encouraged them relentlessly, and took tremendous pride in the adults they became. Nathan is currently attending college, and Danielle recently enlisted in the United States Air Force after graduating from Hoover High School and participating in the ROTC program.

Friends and family will remember Mario for his quick wit, dry sense of humor, intelligence, and independence. He had a gift for finding humor in everyday situations and delivering a perfectly timed remark that could leave a room laughing. Beneath that humor was a loyal and caring man who was always willing to share his knowledge, lend a hand, or offer encouragement when it was needed most.

Even while facing the challenges of kidney disease, Mario approached his treatment with characteristic discipline and determination. He remained actively involved in managing his care, maintaining his independence, and planning for the future. Those who knew him best admired both his resilience and his refusal to let illness define him.

Mario maintained a personal faith in God and Jesus Christ throughout his life. While he preferred a personal relationship with his faith rather than formal religious affiliation, his beliefs provided him strength, comfort, and perspective.

Mario is survived by his beloved children, Nathan Fatigati and Danielle Fatigati; his mother, Antonia (Stelluto) Fatigati; his brothers, Michael Fatigati and Leonard Fatigati (Erin); his nieces and nephews, Analisa, Michael, Regina, Paolo, and Mina; his aunts, Teresa (Stelluto) Herring and Charlene (Black) Stelluto; his uncle, Frank Mariani; and many loving cousins, extended family members, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Natelio Fatigati of Massillon.

Whether behind a camera, in the cockpit of a helicopter, rebuilding a home, pursuing a new business venture, or simply spending time with those he loved, Mario approached life with determination, curiosity, humor, and heart. His memory will live on in the lives he touched, the lessons he shared, and the family he loved so dearly.

A private family viewing is planned. Interment will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Mario's memory to the American Kidney Fund.

May he rest in peace.
