Louis S. Turansky, 93, of Perry Township, passed away Monday, August 29, 2016. Louis was born on January 9, 1923, in Canton, Ohio, the son of Adam and Sophia (Mahofsky) Turansky. He was a United States Army veteran, was held captive as a P.O.W. during WWII, and received a Purple Heart. Louis was a carpenter and construction worker by trade. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and enjoyed bike riding, boating and traveling. He and his sons built a sailboat named TigerShark, which they raced in multiple sailboat regattas in Southern California. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Turansky; son, Thomas Turansky; brothers, Milan and Rudolph Turansky; and sisters, Ida Buksar and Josette Pope. He is survived by his children, David (Cinda) Turansky, Sharon Turansky, and Steven (Karen) Turansky; grandchildren, Tammy Goodrich and Jessica Vandegrift; step-grandchildren, Kelly and Katie Lynch-Turansky; great grandchildren, Tyler and Michael Goodrich; twin sister, Julia DiFolco; and numerous nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, September 10, 2016, at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony / All Saints Catholic Church in Canton. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
