A Life Well Lived...
Larry Hugh Spidel passed away Sunday, January 4th, 2026, from complications of Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP). His rewards were not in titles or money but in smiles and friendships incorporating his Christian values in daily living.
Larry was born on Thursday, May 21, 1942, in Massillon, Ohio to Geraldine and Hugh Spidel. Larry loved music and movies. You could find him watching westerns or John Wayne movies, singing Frank Sinatra or Elvis Preley and Dave Matthew Band. His trivial knowledge was second to none.
Upon graduating from Massillon Washington High School in 1960 Larry joined the U.S, Airforce. A coworker at Weber Dental introduced him to his future wife, Karen Palosi. They were married at St. John’s U.C.C. on July 26, 1969. They enjoyed 56 years together focusing on family, friendships and travel.
Larry retired from Spee-D-Foods in 2009 and kept busy by volunteering with Meals on Wheels, working at the Pro Football Hall of Fame and cheering on the Browns, Indians and Ohio State.
He is survived by his loving wife, Karen, son and daughter in-law, Adam and Mica, and his favorite grandson, Maximilian Hugh, who made his life more complete.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, please pay it forward to someone in need, especially those in long term care facilities. Or, donate to the Humane Society of Stark County in Larry and his beloved Gretchen’s name. Burial will be private and celebration of life will be held in Spring.
In appreciation of all who knew Larry, thank you! A special thank you to our family, friends and staff at Altercare Country Lawn in Navarre, especially the Friendship Hall staff. Your kindness and thoughtfulness will not be forgotten.
As Larry would often say in the words of Tonto, "Yatahey."
And in closing, “Happy trails to you until we meet again.”
