Larry Wayne Harris

Larry Wayne Harris, 76, of Louisville, passed away on September 17, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Larry was born on February 7, 1950, in Massillon, Ohio, to Myron and Genevieve (Manack) Harris. He built a long and successful working career, eventually becoming the owner of Washington Labs. After retiring nearly 10 years ago, Larry embraced retirement fully and enjoyed every minute of it.

Larry was known for his outgoing personality, charisma, quick wit, and sometimes stubborn determination. He had a playful sense of humor and was never afraid to share his opinion or give those around him a hard time. He had a sharp mind and a knack for remembering the most random facts—always ready to share a piece of trivia, whether anyone asked or not. At the heart of it all, Larry genuinely wanted the best for the people he loved and was someone his family could always count on.

Larry was the patriarch of his family and showed his love through time spent together and thoughtful generosity. He loved taking his family out to dinner, treating them to good food, discovering new restaurants, and simply enjoying their company.

Larry enjoyed an active retirement. He took pride in staying active and made sure to get his five-mile walks in regularly. He loved golfing, playing cards with friends, listening to music—especially music from the 1960s—and spending time on the water at his home on the lake. He also loved to cook, often turning a simple meal into an all-day event. During the winter months, Larry enjoyed spending time at his home in Vero Beach, Florida, where he could relax, enjoy the sunshine, and continue making memories.

For 37 years, Larry shared a beautiful life with his partner, Phyllis Darnell. Their relationship endured its share of ups and downs and life's challenges, but their love, commitment, and unwavering presence for one another made theirs a relationship that those around them admired.

Larry is survived by his loving son, Brent Harris; granddaughter, Alyssa Harris; partner, Phyllis Darnell; Phyllis's daughters, Lisa (Matt) Ellis and Lynn (Rich) Thompson; and son, Chris Darnell; sister, Barbara Minch; nephew, Doug Minch; niece, Teri Lynn White; and great-nephew, Aaron White.

In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his nephew, Scott Minch; brother, Terry “Wig” Harris; grandson, Brian Harris; daughter-in-law, Paula Harris; and sister, Kay Harris.

Larry had always wanted to be an organ donor, hoping that even after his passing, he could give others the gift of life. In keeping with that wish, his kidney and liver were successfully recovered for donation. His final act of generosity was a reflection of the caring and giving person he was throughout his life, allowing a part of Larry to live on by helping others.

Larry will be remembered for his laughter, stubbornness, generous spirit, love of good food and music, and—most of all—the time he gave to the people he loved. His presence, personality, and unmistakable sense of humor will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
