Kenneth Wayne Strauss
March 25, 1950 – September 28, 2025
Kenneth Wayne Strauss, beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 28, 2025, under the compassionate care of Aultman Hospice. He was 75.
Kenneth was born on March 25, 1950, in Canton, Ohio, the firstborn son of Marjorie and Frederick Strauss. He was raised in a loving Catholic family. After graduating from Central Catholic High School in 1968, Kenneth soon answered the call to serve his country. He enlisted in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War, where he served with distinction as a submariner and Senior Reactor Operator aboard nuclear-powered submarines. His service was marked by intelligence, discipline, and a deep sense of duty — qualities he carried with him throughout his life.
Following his military service, Kenneth continued his career in the nuclear energy industry with Exelon, where he was known for his expertise and leadership. Often described as “the smartest man in the room,” Kenneth was a deep thinker, a quick wit, and a man of quiet strength and integrity. When asked how are you today Ken had two standard responses-“Marrrvvvelous” and “Fine as frog’s fur”.
Ken was a gifted storyteller who could bring any memory to life with humor, detail, and warmth. He had a passion for card games — Bridge, Hearts, and especially 500 — and his competitive spirit often made for lively family nights. He also had a sweet tooth for pecan pie and a true appreciation for good sushi, both of which he enjoyed as often as possible! His smile could light up a room, and his laughter was as memorable as it was contagious.
After retiring, Kenneth embraced the open road, traveling the country in a camper with his beloved dog, Buddy. He loved Washington State and the Pacific Northwest. Those adventures brought him freedom, joy, and countless new stories to tell.
Kenneth is survived by his siblings: Daniel Strauss of New Philadelphia, Ohio; Debbie Kirschner (Gerald Klein) of ; and Donald (Mary) Strauss of Jackson Twp. Ohio. He leaves behind cherished nieces and nephews: Jennifer (Ed) Case, Liz Strauss, Catherine (Scott) Mattingly, Jace Kirschner (Aiden), and great-nephews Thomas, Jack, and Leo. He is also survived by extended family and his loving caregiver and friend, Sharon Boggs. Sharon was Ken's advocate who always made sure Ken was treated with dignity and respect. Sharon made all our lives better with her smile, her dedication and all those "Right turn Clydes!"
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, Marge and Fred Strauss; sister-in-law, Cindie Strauss; great-niece, Charlotte Mattingly; many beloved aunts and uncles; and his loyal companion, Buddy.
In honor of Ken’s proud Navy service, we share the Sailor’s Creed:
“I am a United States Sailor.
I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States of America and I will obey the orders of those appointed over me.
I represent the fighting spirit of the Navy and those who have gone before me to defend freedom and democracy around the world.
I proudly serve my country’s Navy combat team with honor, courage and commitment.
I am committed to excellence and the fair treatment of all.”
