Kenneth William Avers passed away peacefully at home on April 6, 2026, surrounded by family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Violet Adele Witting and Wilhelm AveMaria.
Ken was born May 8, 1940 in Chicago, Illinois. He moved to Massillon, Ohio in 1977 from Frankfort, Illinois with his family. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Christine (Guzior) and two children, Randall (Line) of Horton, Norway and Jennifer (Damon) of Copley, Ohio. Kenneth was very proud of his five grandchildren: Ethan (Monica), Andrew (Amanda), Felix, Sivert, and Lisa.
Ken was a patient, supportive, and caring person for both his family and his patients. He took his time in all facets of life. Ken had a surprisingly dry wit and enjoyed a good laugh.
He loved fishing, gardening, wood carving, craft beers, Massillon and Ohio state football, reading, and spending time with his family. He was a scholarly person, always educating himself about science, history, the arts, and his Scandinavian roots and lore.
Ken graduated Summa Cum Laude from DePaul University in Chicago with a Masters in Speech and Language Pathology. He continued to pursue a Masters in Administration. He retired after over 50 years at the age of 78, ending his career at Hennis Care Center in Dover, Ohio. He received the Personal Excellence Award in 2008 from the Ohio Health Care Association.
A celebration of his life will be held at his home for family and friends at a later date.
