Joseph Paul Thomas
1932-2026
Joseph P. Thomas, M.D. passed away on March 19, 2026. A dedicated physician, resolute Catholic and beloved patriarch, Joseph’s life was devoted to his profession, faith and family.
The son of Maroun and Wadea Thomas, Joseph grew up in Canton with his siblings John, Mary, Margaret, Rose and Tom, and graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1950. He was a proud alumni of the University of Notre Dame and a graduate of Case Western Reserve School of Medicine. For 50 years he practiced medicine with passion and humility, from 1964 until his retirement in 2014. Providing medical care with his compassionate and kind bedside manner was an abiding privilege and blessing. He was selflessly committed to his patients and impacted countless lives.
A devout Catholic, Joseph was a humble servant leader. Faith was the cornerstone of his life and the compass for his values and actions. He was a loyal parishioner at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, and was grateful to attend weekly mass until his final days.
Joseph will also be remembered for his profound and generous love for family. His infinite knowledge and wisdom lovingly shared in his soft spoken manner will be treasured. He is survived by his sister Rose, his loving and cherished wife of 67 years, Jeanne, his children: John (Patti) Thomas, Bob (Teresa) Thomas, Dave (Jenny) Thomas, Joe Thomas, Marie (Scott) Morse, and Jim (Debra) Thomas; his grandchildren: Brandon, Alexa, Erika, Laurel, Brittany, Ashley, Louie, Kelsey, Maria, Joey, Danny, Emily, William, Caroline, Charlie, JP, Olivia, Sabrina, Michael, Lauren and Jac; and 10 great grandchildren.
Joseph’s life was rich in service, faith and family, and his beautiful qualities leave a lasting legacy on all who knew him.
