Joseph Soehnlen died at 89 following a life filled with adventure, family and service to others. Since his grandfather taught him to hunt and trap as a child, Joe had an insatiable appetite for the outdoors and hunting, both locally and throughout the Western United States, a passion he would share with countless others. Joe graduated from Canton Central Catholic High School and from The Ohio State University with a degree in Food Science. He held patents for food science advances and was recognized as a distinguished graduate of The Ohio State on their Hall of Fame. He was President and CEO of Superior Dairy until his retirement, however, continued to work and contribute long after he retired.
He was active in many community organizations including Jaycees, founding the Gold Rush Project, as well as serving as chair of the Canton Area Chamber of Commerce. At his church, St. Clemens in Navarre, he organized and ran the annual Lenten Fish Fries, Polish breakfasts, and lemonade stands for years.
Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby in 2001, his daughter-in-law Pam, and parents Isabel and Leo Soehnlen. Joe is survived by a large and loving family, his wife Carolyn, his sons Joe, Jr., Ralph (Alene), Jim (Chris), Al (Kathy) and Doug (Terry) and his daughter Karen (Rick) McQueen, along with 14 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
