Jean Salby, 82, of Jackson Township, passed away on Friday, May 23, 2025 at her residence with her family by her side. Jean was born on August 21, 1942 in Massillon, Ohio the daughter of the late Cleland and Marion (Kinney) Mitch.
Jean spent most of her life in Stark County. She graduated from Washington High School in 1960. She furthered her education at Kent State University and Allan Hancock Junior College in Santa Maria, CA. She was employed at Vandenberg A.F.B. in CA, where she performed parts procurement for the Atlas Missile Program. She loved seeing the countryside, landmarks, and traveling, especially to Hilton Head Island for at least 22 years. She also enjoyed going to Broadway Shows, performances, and listening to many types of music. Jean was very active with running, bicycling, tennis, aerobics, walking in the neighborhood with friends and participating in 5K races. She also enjoyed summer evening drives in the convertible. She was a member of the Smoke Free Ohio Committee, which resulted in the law being passed in 2006. She was very thankful to be a 40 year cancer survivor and participated in Relay for Life for many years. She loved spending time with her family and her grand fur babies. Jean was an active member of Church of the Covenant Presbyterian, where she was a Deacon for many years.
She is survived by her loving husband, Eugene Salby, II, with whom she shared 60 years of marriage; sons, Kenneth (Ellis Jimenez) Salby, and Kristopher (Stephanie) Salby; grandson, Carson Brooks; brother, Kenneth (Dee) Mitch; sister-in-law, Sherri; and 2 nieces and 2 nephews.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 3, 2025 from 5-8 pm at the Paquelet Funeral Home. A private graveside service will be held at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Stark County Humane Society. To share a special message with Jean's family, please sign the online guest book.
