Grant Cook Oberlin passed away peacefully at home on February 15, 2026, surrounded by family and friends, with his wife, Kathy, by his side.
Grant was born on January 26, 1954, in Massillon, Ohio to Ralph Edwin Oberlin, Jr. and Rhea Cook Oberlin. He graduated from Jackson High School and went on to attend the University of Denver and Kent State University.
Grant was an artist, a furniture designer, and a man of impeccable taste. He embraced his other talents with equal passion - skiing, tennis, cooking, talking politics, the hunt for the best burger or coney, and coaching Little League baseball.
Yet some of his favorite adventures were trips to the hardware store.
Grant and Kathy loved to entertain, hosting gatherings that their friends will never forget. He had a rare gift for seeing beauty and humor (often punctuated by his mischievous laugh) where others may not.
He was preceded in death by his parents and is lovingly remembered by his wife Kathleen (Toomey), and his siblings, Ellin Schroeder (Robert), Eve Bonk (Ken), Claire Morgan (Dixon), Leigh Frank (Jeff-deceased), and Win Oberlin (Ashley). Grant was a devoted uncle to nine nieces and nephews, and seven great-nieces and great nephews; and will always be remembered by his lifelong friends.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday March 28", 2026 at 11:00am at St. Timothy's Episcopal Church (226 3rd St SE Massillon, Ohio).
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Grant's memory may be made to the Timken Family Cancer Center.
