Together Again
Freddie B Diss, age 86, of Massillon, passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 22nd, 2026. He was born August 2nd, 1939, in Canton Ohio, son of the late Thomas A. and Mary E. (Maier) Diss.
Fred loved playing football and excelled as a running back during his high school years. He was a Timken High School graduate in 1957. Shortly after concluding his service in the Army Reserves, he accidentally bumped in to a young lady near a social gathering in Massillon, and shortly thereafter, married her, his soulmate Sandy on November 5th, 1961. He worked at Echo Products in Canton Ohio for approximately 2 yrs then hired in at United Parcel Service as a delivery driver. He was promoted into loss prevention for a short period and then promoted again to supervisor which he held for nearly 20 years until retiring with 30 year service in 1995.
From 1995 to 2015 Fred and Sandy loved traveling the world with their many great friends visiting many different countries and cities during this period of time on cruises. He loved taking his family on vacations too and poured his heart and soul with love into their lives. His wife, son, daughter in law, grandchildren and great grandchildren were his life and his boundless love and generosity were a testament to his giving nature. He lovingly fulfilled his duties as a devoted husband as he cared for Sandy at the end of her life. He set an example for everyone of what true unconditional love really means.
He loved gardening. Growing everything from seed and then nurturing the plants until harvest. Canning red beets and peppers were his specialty along with making homemade sauerkraut and the cabbage leaves for his homemade cabbage rolls. He was the very best father, husband, grandpa, great grandpa (Padapa) and a loyal friend to all who knew him.
He was proceeded in death by his wife, Sandra K (Kohl) Diss, his parents, and his brother, Thomas G Diss.
Fred is survived by his son and daughter in law Jeffrey and Michele Diss, his granddaughters Christina (Josh) Barrick, Diana (William) Weaver, Jessica (Jeremy) Darst, and seven great grandchildren, Hailey, Samantha, Audrie, Liam, Kinsley, Lucas, and Myles, his sister Carol Beard and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
Funeral Services will be held at Paquelet & Arnold-Lynch Funeral Home located at 1100 Wales Rd NE, Massillon, Ohio. All are invited to pay their respects during calling hours on April 30, 2026, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, as well as on May 1, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM. The funeral service will follow promptly at 10:00 AM at the same location. Freddie Diss will be laid to rest at Forest Hill Cemetery following the services.
