Edward “Ed” L. Sensel, age 73, of Massillon, Ohio passed away peacefully surrounded by family on December 12th, 2025.
Ed was born May 24, 1952 to Maxine and Raymond Sensel. He graduated from Jackson High School in 1970. Shortly thereafter he began serving in the National Guard and volunteering as a firefighter at Jackson Township Fire Department. In 1976, Ed dedicated his full time to being a firefighter where he went on to become Captain of Jackson Township Fire Department in 2001 where he kept that title until retirement in April of 2011 after serving a total of 35 years.
During his 10 years as captain, Ed taught the next generation of firefighters and EMTs preparing them for the life and honor of being a firefighter and an EMT through Stark State College. After retiring from the fire department, Ed wanted to continue making a difference in the future generations of paramedics by teaching at Stark State College for 31 years.
With his outstanding career, at home, Ed was a simple man. He loved watching the news and sports, being with his family, and a good butterscotch pie. He loved driving his car and making surprise visit to his godchildren with a large pizza that he could not finish alone and thought they would be hungry. He always thought of his family before himself till the very end.
Ed believed in the good of people, stopping to give a meal to those less fortunate, providing a ride to those who needed one, and in general helping those who needed an extra boost to make it through. Ed was that person to many and saved many people not only through his career as a firefighter and a paramedic but through his kindness. If anyone knew Ed that is how he would want to be remembered, a kind and good man.
Ed is survived by his best friends Dave and Rebecca McAlicker; Ryan Shanower; God Children Caitlyn (Mike) Morris , Tiffany (Sam) Crawford , and David McAlicker.
He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings.
