Edna Bernice Jones

Edna B. Jones June 23, 1931 - November 20, 2025

Edna B. Gardin Jones, 94, of Massillon, went to be with her Lord and Savior on November 20 after a short illness. She was surrounded by her immediate family and close friends.

Edna was born to the late Theresa Gardin and Frank Williams in Spencer Mountain, N.C. She graduated from Highland High School in Gastonia, N.C. Upon graduation, she received a graduation gift of a trip to Canton, Ohio. While there, she met her future husband, Joe Jones Jr. Their union produced five children.

Edna was a very creative person and had many talents. She loved spending hours in her floral garden and was an excellent cook, making many dishes from scratch. She was the pianist for St. James AME Zion Church of Massillon for several years. When not playing the piano, she was a member of the senior choir, the Floral Club and the Decorating Committee for Special Events.

She always had time to listen to those who needed an ear. Her compassionate side always led her to help those in need. Additionally, she always sacrificed for friends, family, and even strangers.

Edna was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 62 years, Joe Jones Jr.; a brother, Terry Young; granddaughter, Valarie Jones; and grandson Jeffery P. Jones Jr. She leaves to cherish her memory daughters Donna (David) Bodiford; Linda Barnett; sons Van K. Jones and Jeffery (Lynette) Jones Sr.; grandchildren Randall Clark Jr.; Nicole O’Reilly; Monet Robinson; Brandi Sharpe; Lamar Green; Van Jones II; Britney Smith; Alex Bodiford; Lauren Oliver; Brooke Anderson; Miles Jones; Sterling Jones; Chloe Evans; 25 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; special friends Rosa Scott; Mary Sims; Ann Huffman; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 26, 2025 from 11:00 am – 12:00 pm at the St. James AME Zion Church, Massillon, with funeral ceremonies starting at 12:00 pm, Rev. Dr. Walter J. Arrington officiating. A private family burial will be held.
