Donald Norman Kessel, of Massillon, Ohio, was born on August 1, 1938, and passed away on September 22, 2025. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend whose life touched many through his love, guidance, humor, and unwavering presence.
He graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1956. Two years later, in 1958, he married the love of his life, Rosella Marks Kessel, and together they shared 67 years of marriage built on love, faith, and commitment. Their partnership was the foundation of a strong and loving family.
Donald was the proud father of five children, and his greatest joy came from being "Dad" and "Grandpa." He was blessed with 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, all of whom were his pride and delight.
Professionally, Donald built a respected career as a Communications Systems Specialist with WES Sound & Systems, where his expertise, work ethic, and dedication left a lasting impact. He approached every task with integrity and determination, earning the respect of colleagues and friends alike.
A man of deep faith, Donald was an active member of Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, where he sang in the choir and helped found the Young at Heart group. He was also a proud member of the Knights of Columbus Council 4533. His faith shaped every part of his life, guiding his values and strengthening the legacy he passed on to his family.
Outside of his work and church, Donald embraced life with a love for the outdoors and adventure. He especially enjoyed fishing, golfing, camping, and boating trips at Salt Fork. His love for music— especially the songs of Elvis Presley—was a constant presence. He also loved good-natured competition, whether it was Holey Board, horseshoes, card games, or basketball, where he relished the chance to "beat everyone." Never one to shy away from adventure, he once rode a mule to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and later celebrated his 80th birthday by zip lining. Donald lived life fully, finding joy in simple moments and creating memories that his family and friends will forever treasure.
Donald is survived by his loving wife, Rosella; his five children, Kathleen, Christine (Dennis), Donald Jr., Gregory (Janet), and Laureen (David); 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Vesta Kessel.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, on Friday, October 3, 2025 at 11:00am, where family and friends will gather to honor his memory. The family welcomes all who knew Donald to celebrate his life, remember the warmth he shared, and carry forward the values of faith, family, and love that he instilled.
