David Leroy Poindexter, age 78, of Massillon, Ohio, went home to be with the Lord on October 9, 2025, surrounded by family.
Dave was born on November 8, 1946 in Massillon to Wilma (nee Wilson) and Cecil Poindexter. He grew up there and graduated from Massillon Washington High School in 1964. Shortly after, he enlisted with the Marines. David served his country faithfully in the United States Marines during the Vietnam War.
After returning home, Dave married Marian (nee Morton) on October 12, 1974, and together built a loving home and family. He worked at Hoover for over 35 years. He and Marian raised Alex David Poindexter in Massillon as well. After retiring from Hoover, he worked in construction for another 10 years, and then at a church in a maintenance role.
David was a man of deep faith. He loved Jesus and was a longtime member of RiverTree Christian Church. He lived out his faith serving in various roles, leading Bible studies, and always quick to lend a hand wherever there was a need.
He was a handyman who could do about anything around the house. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, playing euchre, complaining about Cleveland sports, and absolutely treasured time with his grandchildren- especially at the baseball field.
He will be remembered for his playfully cynical sense of humor, his meticulous craftsmanship, and mostly his love for friends and family.
David is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Marian; his son, Alex (Kelli); his grandchildren, Spencer and Elijah Poindexter; sister, Lola (Bob Crawford).
He was preceded in death by parents, Wilma and Cecil, bother, Jim, and grandaughter, Alexis Poindexter.
Services will be held at Paquelet Funeral Home, with Pastor Jake Garmany of RiverTree Christian Church officiating. Monday, October 13 visitation 1:00-3:00pm. Funeral to follow at 3:00.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Aulman Hospice or RiverTree Christian Church.
David lived a life of love, faith, and service. His legacy will continue through the lives he touched and the family he loved so deeply.
