Daniel D. Petcavage

April 26, 1932 — November 21, 2012

Daniel Dominic Petcavage, age 80 of Massillon was brought home by the Lord on November 21, 2012 after a long illness in which he put up the fight you would expect of a proud Marine. Dan left this world to be with the Lord with his wife at his side and surrounded by a large loving family at his home in Massillon. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bruno & Helen (Naruczweiz) Petcavage, four brothers Harry, Felix, Albert and Bro. George OFM; two sisters Bernice Kamie and Josephine Schuster and two grandsons, Abram Brown and Noah Maxin. He was a Marine veteran of the Korean War where he was one of the 'Frozen Chosin' in the 1st Marine Division. He was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star for his brave service. He returned from the war to marry his beautiful wife, Leona (Smith) Petcavage and settled in Massillon. They celebrated their fifty-ninth anniversary in August. Dan is survived by his wife and seven children. Deborah (Peter) Rink, Rita (Mark) Burger, Michael (Jane) Petcavage, Christine (Todd) Klinger, Victoria (Richard) Brown all of Massillon, Daniel (Sarah) Petcavage of Las Vegas and Theresa (Greg) Maxin of Canton; his sister, Sister Margaret Petcavage, SSC of Chicago, as well as thirteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. In addition to his family, a large part of Dan's life was the community in which he lived. He was the Grand Lodge President of the State of Ohio Sons & Daughters of Herman and President of the Massillon Sons of Herman Lodge. He was a loyal member of the Knights of Columbus #554, VFW, FOE and other fraternal organizations. Dan was a loving husband, dad, grandpa, great grandpa, and friend. His family is grateful this Thanksgiving for the time we had with him and the wonderful family we are a part of because of him. He will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know and love him. The family would like to give special thanks to all who cared for Dan during his illness: Dr. S. Scheufler, Dr. M. Haut and Staff, Akron General Visiting Nurses Service, Mercy Hospice and Staff, Fr. Tom Cebula of St. Barbara Catholic Church, and Jody King of the VA for her special care for Dan these past five months. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 AM Monday at St. Barbara' Catholic Church, his pastor Fr. Thomas Cebula will officiate. His burial will be at Brookfield Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday from 2 to 5 PM at the Paquelet Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Faith in Action of Western Stark County or the Memorial Fund at St. Barbara's Church.
