Caroline Sue Nist, 85, of Massillon, Ohio, passed away February 21, 2026, following the devastating effects of Parkinson's Disease. She was born on January 24, 1941 to the late Alda and Palmajune Phillips.
Caroline moved to Canton, Ohio at the age of 5. She graduated in the first graduating class of Perry High School in 1959, where she was part of the choir, National Honors Society, and took business classes. After graduation, she worked for the Timken Company as a blueprint reader, a job she earned by being at the top of her book keeping class. On March 24, 1962, she married her childhood sweetheart, Gary. Together they created a loving home, and raised three children. Caroline walked with the Lord throughout her life, trusting and believing that God is in control. Her faith in Jesus Christ gave her strength until the end. Caroline tried to say yes whenever someone asked or needed her to do something, which led to many jobs, activities and adventures, that created many long lasting friendships. Caroline's greatest joy in life was her grandchildren, she cherished the time she got to spend with them and taught them the importance of being good, and treating others kindly.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 64 years, Gary; children, Tammy (John) Lyons, Gary (Sharon) Nist II, and Douglas (Cheryl) Nist; grandchildren, Meredith, Jack, and Caris Lyons, Olivia Nist, and Victoria, Holden, and Lauren Nist; siblings, Scott (Faye) Phillips, Robert (Peggy) Phillips, Betsy (Gordon) Woolbert, and Cindy Sober; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Visitation will take place on Monday, March 2, 2026 from 10:00 am to 12:00pm at Paquelet Funeral Home. A funeral service will immediately follow at 12:00pm.
A private burial will take place at Sunset Hills.
