Carl A. Laase, a cherished member of the Canton and Massillon communities, passed away on September 30, 2025, at the age of 94. Born on September 3, 1931, Carl lived a life full of dedication, service, and love for his family and friends.
A proud graduate of Timken High School, Carl’s career commenced at Timken Company in Canton, where he worked diligently for several years before retiring in 1982. After his retirement, he continued to contribute to the community alongside his wife, Harriet, by working for the Porthouse family in Kent. His passion for maintaining beautiful landscapes led him to become a groundskeeper at Lake Cable, a position he held for many years.
Carl’s illustrious life was punctuated by his dedicated service during the Korean War, where he honorably served in both the Navy and the Army; part of that service stationed in La Rochelle, France. His military service instilled in him a strong sense of duty and commitment, qualities he carried into all aspects of his life.
Carl was a devoted member of the Canton Baptist Temple, where he attended services regularly, forged many lasting friendships, and inspired others in the Faith Builder’s Class. His unwavering love for his family and friends was evident to all who knew him, as he often expressed gratitude for the connections he cherished.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Laase; his sons, Richard (Ann) Laase, and Randall (Patricia) Laase; daughters, Sandra (Rick) Harper, and Christine (David) Porter; sisters, Cindi (James) Gunning, and Judi (Dick) Steffes; half-sister, Barb Smith; eleven grandchildren, including Clint McIntyre, Jennifer Henthorn, Elise Buchholz, Jackie Stroud, Ben Porter, Jonathan Laase, Eric Laase, Jesse Laase, Trevor Laase, Breanne Walter, and Matthew Harper; and a multitude of nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind nine great-grandchildren who brought immense joy to his life.
Carl was preceded in death by his first wife of 56 years, Harriet I. Laase; his father, Charles A. Laase; his mother, Clyo Roach; his son, Kipp Laase; his granddaughter, Amanda Wingerter; brothers, Kirk Laase, and Ronald Laase; sisters, Jeanine (Thomas) Biebelhausen, and Susan (William) Tennent; and half-sister, Linda (Artie) Gibbard.
Carl A. Laase’s legacy of love, hard work, and commitment to service will continue to resonate with all whose lives he touched. He will be warmly remembered and dearly missed.
A visitation will be held on October 8, 2025, from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM at the Canton Baptist Temple, located at 515 Whipple Avenue Northwest, Canton, OH 44708. The funeral service will follow at the same location, commencing at 12:00 PM and concluding at 12:45 PM. A graveside service will take place that afternoon at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens, located at 3655 Wales Road Northeast, Massillon, OH 44646, starting at 1:15 PM.
