Arthur Morris Watkins Jr., lovingly known as “Archie,” passed away peacefully on October 7, 2025, following a brief illness. He was surrounded by his devoted family at the Woodlawn Comfort Care Center. Born on July 1, 1950, in Akron, Ohio, Archie lived a life full of heart, laughter, and unwavering love for his family, friends, and all creatures great and small. A proud graduate of Kenmore High School, Class of 1969, Archie was a true kid at heart and made an impression on everyone he met with his joyful spirit and kind nature. In high school, he ran track and earned a varsity letter and was actively involved in the Boy Scouts. His adventurous soul found a lifelong passion for fishing early on, especially on family trips to Canada—memories he cherished throughout his life.
After high school, Archie answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the U.S. Army. He spent four years in service, including 15 months in Vietnam, with the remainder of his time stationed at Fort Knox and serving in the Ohio National Guard. A proud veteran, Archie carried his sense of duty, honor, and patriotism into every area of his life. In 1971, Archie married the love of his life, Charlotte Knight Watkins. Together, they built a beautiful life grounded in love, laughter, and shared values. They raised two children, Michael and Kimberly, who were his pride and joy. Archie followed in his father’s footsteps, beginning his career at BF Goodrich in Akron, where he worked building airplane tires for 14 years. He later continued his career at Union Drawn in Massillon until his well-earned retirement in 2012.Archie was a man of many passions.
In his early years, he loved to bowl and played in both basketball and softball leagues. He was an avid golfer—once achieving a hole-in-one—and he never missed an opportunity to go fishing, a pastime that brought him joy and serenity throughout his life. He was also an enthusiastic antique-r who enjoyed attending auctions and setting up at flea markets, always on the lookout for unique treasures. Archie devoted hours to restoring any furniture that inspired him, bringing each piece back to its original beauty. A lifelong animal lover with a soft heart for creatures in need, Archie was known for rescuing injured birds and caring deeply for animals. He shared his home and heart with three beloved cats: Toofie, Drague, and Louis.
Archie was a proud member of several organizations, including the Elks (Punta Gorda Lodge 2606), the Moose Fraternity (Punta Gorda Lodge 1693), and the Allenside Athletic Club in Akron. For the past nine years, he and his wife were “snowbirds,” enjoying their time at Live Oak RV & Golf Resort, where they created many memories and lasting friendships. Whether it was sitting around a bonfire with his family, playing games, or sharing stories, Archie was most content when surrounded by those he loved. His life was a testament to kindness, generosity, and compassion. He touched countless lives and will be remembered for his infectious laughter, his deep loyalty, and the light he brought into every room.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Charlotte; his children, Michael (Christel) Watkins and Kimberly (Jon) Tersigni; his grandchildren Tyler (Ingrid), Erin (Tim), Bailey (Morgan), Jordan, and Sara (Eddie); and his 7 great-grandchildren—with one more expected soon. He is also survived by his sister Donna Duncan (Juaneva), his brothers Bill and John, and many dear friends and extended family members who will forever carry his memory in their hearts. Archie was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Watkins Sr.; his mother, Madeline George; and his sister, Linda Ickes.
A celebration of life will be held at a future date with additional details to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Archie's memory to: Stark Parks, Joseph J. and Helen M. Sommer Wildlife Conservation Center in Massillon Ohio. https://starkparks.com/
