Abby Kay Fisher Small, 68, of Pawley’s Island, South Carolina, passed away on February 23, 2025 at the Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital, in Canton, Ohio.

She was born on December 16, 1956 in Massillon, Ohio to the late Daniel M. Fisher and Barbara Moyer Fisher. She resided in Canal Fulton, until her marriage in 1991 to Carl Small. After that, she resided at Pawley’s Island, South Carolina until returning to Canal Fulton to assist her mother.

She was a 1975 graduate of Northwest High School in Canal Fulton, Ohio and a she earned a diploma from the Akron University School of Nursing in Akron, Ohio as a Licensed Practical Nurse.  

Abby retired from a career of providing home health care as a traveling nurse in the communities surrounding Georgetown, South Carolina.

Abby excelled in designing and creating intricate lacemaking patterns by tatting. She earned the Certificate of Tatting Proficiency as a TAT Master Tatter - Phase III by completing the in-depth program through Tatters Across Time Tatting Proficiency Program. She was a member of the International Organization of Lace, Ring of Tatters, and the Great Lakes Lace Group. She was a patient instructor who enjoyed sharing her knowledge of tatting by teaching the young and old the heritage art.

She had been a member of the Algonquin Spinning and Weaving Guild of Carrollton, Ohio. As a talented crafter, she excelled in crocheting, knitting and working with natural fibers of wool and cotton with a spinning wheel.

Abby is survived by her husband, Carl Small, her mother, Barbara Fisher, her aunt, Bernadette Moldenhauer, step children, and step grandchild and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, Daniel M. Fisher, and a brother, also Daniel M. Fisher.

She was a tiny, quiet lady who loved animals, her family and a good joke. She had hearty robust laugh that would make the world around her a better place. She was loved and will be missed by family and friends.
