Lawrence L. Meyer, 88, of Canton, Ohio passed away Sunday, February 5, 2023. Lawrence was born on August 8, 1934 in Edgeley, ND to Edward and Gladys (Cofell) Meyer. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Ed and Glen, his brother-in-law Gary Gardner, and his son-in-law Bob Hutchison, who also passed on February 5, 2023. He is survived by his sister, Marilyn Singleterry.

Lawrence married Sharon L. Gardner on March 19, 1960. She survives him. Also surviving are his children, Susan Meyer; Kathryn Hutchison; Edward (Deanna) Meyer; and Margaret (Mark) Kimmerle. The couple have eight grandchildren – Janelle (Steve) Evans; Amanda Hutchison, Emily (Cody) Myers; Alexandra, Johnathon and Meghann Meyer; and Christian and Eric Kimmerle, and two great-grandchildren, Ava and Theo Evans.

After graduating from Edgeley High School, Lawrence went to North Dakota State University in Fargo. He was a member of Sigma Phi Delta, the Blue Key, Tau Beta Phi, Arnold Air Society, American Institute of Electrical Engineering, Air Force Association, Institute of Radio Engineers and was president of the Ham Club. He graduated with a BS in Engineering.

Following college, Lawrence joined the Air Force and was stationed at Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque, NM. He was a Special Weapons officer and earned the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. He received several Letters of Commendation while at Kirtland.

Upon discharge from the Air Force, Lawrence took a position with General Electric. He also worked for Texas Instruments and Alliance Manufacturing, during which time he completed a Master’s in Business Administration from Pepperdine University. He retired as President and COO of Ideal Electric Company.

During retirement, Lawrence and Sharon enjoyed traveling, golf, bowling, and spending time with family and friends.

Lawrence was always willing to lend a helping hand and believed in living an honest and Godly life. He was a faithful Lutheran since childhood. At the time of his death he was a member of St. John Lutheran Church where he served as Head Elder.

Visitation will be from 10:00am to 11:00am on Monday, February 13, 2023 at St. John Lutheran Church in Massillon, OH. A Funeral Service will follow, beginning at 11:00.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions in memory of Lawrence be made to the Capital Campaign Fund of St. John Lutheran Church, 1900 Wales Road NE, Massillon, OH 44646.
